My preferred method to enjoying the weekly newsletter is to:
- Scroll quickly to the “Notes” section to read that first
- Back to the top to listen to the whole article with the Substack Reader, while following along on the MO website for the images, graphs, and links (gotta wait a few minutes after the 9:00am email before it’s loaded)
- Open all the article links and “Read This” links, leaving them open for a few days until I get to them
I forgot to add that I go to Note first as it’s the most opinionated part of an opinionated newsletter. Who said echo chambers (and copying the opinions from someone’s writing I have yet to disagree with) is a bad thing?
Will be forever amused by the NRL splashing out $500k in a salary cap concession to Perth given that number is vaguely similar to what a certain CEO asked their corporate overlords for in 2005, which coincidentally was about the amount that same club decided would be their own extra salary cap spending level during phase one of their scheme. The less said about phase two the better though!
Obligatory comment for engagement :)

lol I don’t think if you’d given me a million guesses that I would have worked out that was how anyone was using the newsletter. Thank you.
